In the early morning of Friday February 1, 2008, the Cumberland Hill Fire Department was dispatched to Rt. 99 for a vehicle into the water. The body of water is a small pond located between the north and southbound lanes. Apparently the driver of the vehicle lost control, drove through a chain link fence, down an embankment, and onto the frozen pond. The victim self-extricated herself and walked home, calling the police hours later. It was determined that no other individuals were in the vehicle and the vehicle would have to wait to daylight to be removed because the vehicle had already sunk through the ice. Members of the Cumberland Hill and North Cumberland Fire Department's assisted the tow company with removal of the vehicle from the pond. The entire operation took approximately one hour.
