On June 13, 2008 the Blackstone (MA) Fire Department responded to the Valley St. area for a reported fire around 4:45pm. Woonsocket (RI) Fire Department also dispatched a full first alarm assignment; the location of the building is close to the city’s border. On arrival companies reported a well involved commercial building. The building was a one and a half story “L” shaped building 50’ x 200’ with an attached 50’ x 50’ section.

A third alarm was called and companies engaged the fire with heavy appliances and master stream devices. Several ladder pipes were set up until the fire appeared to be darkening down. At that point, an interior attacked commenced to finish putting out the flames. Extensive overhaul was needed and relief companies had to be called in due to the heat and humidity.

In addition to Woonsocket mutual aid was called in from Bellingham (MA), Mendon (MA), Millville (MA). Cumberland (RI) and North Smithfield (RI) companies were called in eventually for overhaul. Reportedly the smoke could be seen for miles.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
