Shortly before 3pm on Wednesday June 27, 2007, the Woonsocket Fire Department was dispatched to 48 Parker St. for a reported structure fire on this hazy, hot, and humid day with the temperature at 96ºF. Engine 1 was first on scene and reported a code red. Firefighters encountered a three story occupied wood-frame with fire showing from the first floor from the rear of the building. Occupants on the 2nd floor made their way to the front porch and had to be rescued by firefighters. The fire was quickly knocked down but there was extension up to the 2nd floor. All Woonsocket units responded to the scene, as well as the air supply unit from Cumberland. Extra companies were brought in due to the heat and the need for overhaul. Cumberland, North Smithfield, and Blackstone companies filled the empty Woonsocket stations during the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
