Around 8:30pm on Columbus Day October 8, 2007, the Woonsocket Fire Department was called to their second fire of the evening. This time E-2 arrived on scene of a three and a half story wood-framed occupied tenement building and had fire showing from the basement on side 4(right side) of the structure. An aggressive attack was performed and this was a great stop by Woonsocket firefighters. There was an immediate exposure located on side 4 which could have easily worsened conditions on scene if that had become engulfed. All occupants made it out of the building safely due to the activation of functioning smoke detectors in the building. Cumberland and North Smithfield provided station coverage in the city. Woonsocket's Fire Chief Ken Finlay was the incident commander at this job. The occupants of the building are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
